New Mexico Canine Rescue and Safequard

We always have dogs in our shelter waiting for good homes.  NMCRS does not shy away from taking in dogs that have special needs, as each dog has its own personality and history, as well as talents discovered or yet to be discovered.

All animals that leave our shelter have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated and trained, setting us apart from traditional shelters.

Over the years we have seen many wonderful and no doubt expensive dogs who have ended up on death row in animal shelters merely at the whim of their owners.  Likewise we have known many people that have minimal resources that have provided some of the most loving and caring environments for their dogs.

Adoption fees:  a donation of $50 to help us cover our costs is welcomed.  We know that many organizations charge more than this.  Our low adoption fees are a reflection of our feeling that it is more important to see an animal go into a good home than for us to capitalize on its adoption.

We will update this page with photographs and brief descriptions as dogs become available.  If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail or phone us and we’ll be happy to help you with more information.

Here are some photos of current adoptees. Descriptions about each dog and an adoption application will be added soon.

Mookie:

Mookie is a 3-year old Border Collie. He is neutered, and up to date on all his vaccinations. This dog is out of working stock-dog lines, and has enough power and drive to handle any type of stock. He’s a great prospect for someone who’s looking for a dog to work on a daily basis.

Mookie has an “eager-to-please” temperament like most Borders, but is also a very assertive dog, and can be dominant with strangers. He’s a natural guard dog, and will take protecting your home very seriously. Mookie’s great with cats and other dogs, and knows all his obedience commands, as well as some extras. His ideal home would be with an experienced dog-person- preferably someone who is familiar with Border Collies, who has sheep or cattle, and plenty of land. No kids.
